A Little Too Warm For Comfort

Good morning from the rancho.  Sitting with my coffee, enjoying the cool early morning.

It has been far too warm this past week, almost every day was triple digits.  I can't keep my plants watered and the heat has taken a toll on my flowers.  My roses bloom, then immediately crisp by the afternoon.  I'm sure that most people have seen the news about all the California wildfires.  We loved the rain, we prayed for more.  Unfortunately, that means we will have a horrific fire season.  All it takes is one little spark.  A fire in southern California went from a small one acre grass fire, to 30,000 acres in about 24 hours.  There are 800 firefighters in the area with only a 5% containment.  They've confirmed two deaths and the loss of 1000 structures.  It's going to be a tough summer.  Please keep us in your prayers.

Meanwhile, I'm plodding along.  My Father's Day funk lasted almost all week.  I just couldn't shake the sad feelings.  Even my staff noticed that I had lost my vacation "happy".  I was off yesterday to travel to a promotional exam.  I have mixed feelings and found it hard to study.  On one hand, it would be nice to have the boost to my retirement, on the other, I would have to work for another couple of years. Hmmm...win?  Not sure.  Of course, I could not get the job...so, this could be a moot point.  Anyway, I did a little studying and then figured either I knew it or I didn't.   I think I did well, but know that I OVER ANSWERED at least one of the questions.  Sometimes, I just can't stop talking.  LOL

On top of the worry about the exam, my morning started by dropping my cellphone in the toilet. Really?  I have to keep my phone with me all the time because of work, but I really shouldn't put it on the back of toilet while I'm cleaning.   On the other hand, at least the toilet was clean when my phone went swimming. LOL  I am much faster than I look, so I snatched it up before the water soaked through the case.  After dismantling the case, cleaning it and the phone with soap, water, and an alcohol pad, I let it dry...Yay, I didn't kill it!  I figured that either that was the way my day was going to go, or that was the worst thing that could happen.  I try not to think where it's been while using it now.  LOL

In between work, exams, and teaching my phone to swim, I've been doing some knitting.  I tried to finish up my granny square blanket, but it is getting so big and it is just too hot to hold it on my lap. So, I picked up my slub scarf.  I am liking it a bit more, starting on the third skein.  The slubs don't seem as noticeable when there are a whole bunch.  LOL

Okay, peeps.  I am off to start the day.  My brother is gone for the weekend, my husband and stepson are gone for the weekend, and I am on cow patrol.  I really need to get dressed and head out to check water troughs.  I don't think the cows would mind me in my jammies, but it could be a bit of a surprise for the people!  Have a wonderful weekend, be kind to one another.

A Pensive Moment

Good morning.  Up before the sun this morning and one extra, extra large cup of coffee into my day. Tomorrow will be Father's Day.  I'm not really sure how I feel about that.  Yes, I still have my father, but not really.  I guess I am mourning the loss of the man I knew.  We are now three years into Hospice.  Not really something that you want to brag about.  You never, never want to be a Hospice professional. Keeping myself busy and exercising regularly helps to keep my mind straight, but I think that this is going to be a tough weekend.  Sigh....

So, I will put on my big girl bloomers and get through this time.

I took my stepson to a yarn store last week.  Needless to say, not exactly what he had planned, but once I got him to "pet" the yarn, he did get a bit interested.  LOL  I let him pick out some yarn for a scarf.  He really did a nice job.  A nice shiny grey and a pretty deep red.  I will try to get a better picture once I get started.

Trying to keep all the flowers alive in the heat.  We are supposed to hit triple digits again this weekend.  I guess that summer is here.

My one and only sunflower...

Maybe not as big as you thought...LOL

My dollar store glads are finally blooming.  Pretty color, but the heat is not good for the flowers. They seem to be a little speckled.

My cactus seem to be happy.  The heat doesn't bother them at all.  LOL  My bunny ear cactus sure has grown!

So, I am off like a herd of turtles.  We are supposed to attend a wedding this afternoon.  Not really feeling it...but will try to get excited.  Hope that all have a good weekend.  Be kind to one another.

Don't Eat These...I Will Do That For You...

Good Morning and happy Sunday from the rancho!!

Have you seen these Peanut Butter M&Ms in the store?  The first time I was introduced to these evil candies was at my stitching retreat.  I looked high and low and finally found them at WalMart.  Do not, under any circumstances, eat these. If and when you find them, purchase all that will fit in your cart and send them to me.  I will save you and eat them myself.  LOL  These are like Reese's Pieces, but on steroids.  SO. VERY. YUMMY. I. CANNOT. STOP.  Well, I do stop when the bag is empty. LOL  And since they are candy coated, you can eat them and stitch at the same time.  Win-win!

For those of you that need a little EYE candy, in the way of yarn, here is the beautiful wool that came in  mail last week.  I was a tiny bit sad, none of them really match my slub yarn.  Of the two greens, one is too dark, one is too bright.  The misty grey might work...But, maybe, just maybe, I will need to buy more yarn!!  LOL

On Friday, my husband called to say that he was going to be late.  Well, my stepson and I decided to head to town for pizza.  Halfway there, hubby called to remind us to save him a few pieces. Hmmmm, after some thought, we did, but only because he asked.  LOL

Here is my stepson.  He is 15 and really a fun date.  LOL

He doesn't mind being silly with me!

I am off to start my Sunday chores.  I hope that each of you have a wonderful day.  Be kind to one another.

PS  I don't usually mention the news, but there was a shooting in an Orlando, Florida, nightclub early this morning.  Fifty people were murdered.  Whether this was an act of terrorism or out-and-out hate against the gay community, it doesn't matter.  Please pray for their families and the end of hate.

A Quick Visit...Really!! But I Have Pictures!

Okay, peeps and peepettes, I took a little look at my blog and noticed that I haven't put down one word in over a week!!  I would say that I cannot get out of vacation mode, but that's not really true.  I blogged more on vacation than I have since I've been home.  LOL

But either way, here is a quick visit...

I have tomatoes!!  They're not really ready, but I wanted to get a picture before the birds had a little snack. My plant doesn't look too healthy...not sure if it is the weather (about 95 degrees every day) or that hubby didn't water well enough while I was gone.  Oh well, at least I have a few tomatoes!

And my first gladiola.  Very odd...I have lots and lots of plants, but this is the only one blooming.

I've tried to stay focused on my Giants afghan.  I am a little over half done.  I hope to finish it before baseball season ends.  LOL

And my not-so-favorite slubby scarf.  I am still not loving it, but I will soldier on.  LOL  I am on my second skein of yarn.  There is no way I will have enough to finish this scarf.  So....I took a little looksy on the World Wide Web...and guess what?  I found more yarn!!  LOL  LOL  LOL  It isn't the same yarn, but it compliments these colors and I think I can do some color blocks or stripes and make it work.   And of course, since it was on sale, and the more I bought, the better the sale price, well...I bought a tiny bit more than I needed for this scarf.  LOL  I will post pictures when it gets here!!

I am off and running.  Not really...but it sounds good.  LOL  Here's wishing for a lovely evening to all.  Be kind to one another.
