Return From Zombie Land

Good evening, peeps and peepettes.

Where have I been you ask?  Go down the dark and twisty road...turn left at the skull and cross bones, take the bridge over the River of the Dead, peek over the sign that says Zombie Land and look for the old lady hacking up a lung.  Yep, that's me.  This cold is like the Energizer Bunny...just keeps going and going and going.  I started back to work last week, but it was tough.  I slept MOST of last weekend. Monday was tough, Tuesday was a pain, and today...well, I am still tired but functioning.

I have a few things to show.  First, I finished my stepson's red and black blanket.  I think it turned out nice and he was thrilled when I sent it as part of his Valentine's gift.

Then, with all the time at the hospital with Baby Sister, I started a new blanket.  Nothing special, but I liked the colors.  I was thinking of starting a knitting project, but it was much easier to haul around one crochet hook and one skein of yarn.  LOL  One less thing to lose.

Got home, spent the next week sleeping and then started a knitted scarf for my son.  It is a simple knit and purl, but I love, love, love the Merino wool and it is turning out so pretty!  I bought a new pair of bamboo needles.  I really like the quiet of these needles and it just seems to work better with the wool.  It sounds weird, but working with natural products makes me feel more grounded to the world. I know, weird.  LOL

Update on Baby Sister...she is doing great!!  Learning how to eat to fit the surgery and healing well. She feels that it was worth it.  With the cold that I caught, I am still thinking about it.  LOL  This is about all I can handle tonight...I am off to shower and then fall into bed.

Be kind to one another.

  2. Love the new blanket! The knitted scarf for your son is awesome. I love that pattern and yarn! I enjoy knitting patterns that allow me to just knit and enjoy the experience. I don't really like complicated ones that make me feel as though I need a masters degree to understand them. (I am thinking of lace charts, yuck!). I can't use wool, it makes me want to scratch my finger prints off, but it sure is lovely. I still grab wool yarn when I am in a knit shop...I can hold it for about a few seconds then I get all itchy where the wool touched my skin. I love the softness, but not able to use it. I can use the alpaca, and it's cloud soft and yummy! I love using my wooden circulars for straight knitting. I use the 16 inch circulars, that have bamboo needles attached. Love them. I think they are Clover brand, got them at Jo Anne's. Hope you get to feeling better very soon. ((hugs)). So glad your sister is doing well. Lots of soup and rest....oh, and don't forget the chocolate, too. Wishing you a lovely day sweet friend. :)

    1. Vicki...no wool!?! Oh no, I cannot imagine...Okay, buy the alpaca and baby camel and brush tail possum. Just explain that due to your allergy you MUST purchase the more expensive yarn. LOL I think you can work this. LOL I love the fancy scarves, but like you, am very intimidated by the instructions. Sigh...maybe one day. I never thought I'd learn to crochet, so there is always hope. Yes, I did lots of soup, lots of rest, not much chocolate. I prefer to taste my chocolate, so I'm waiting until I get my taste buds back. LOL Have a good night!

    1. Frances...being a zombie is all the rage, you know. LOL And I think you're on to something. I haven't been this sick in a really, really long time. Either this is to remind me to slow down, or my immune system was asleep and missed the initial virus! LOL Have a good night!

  4. Welcome back from Zombie Land!! I am glad you and your sister are feeling better. The universe has a crazy sense of humor when you get sick at a hospital when you're helping someone.

Your crocheting is lovely!! I wish I could learn to knit, but it seems complicated to me to use both hands.....not that you don't do the same in crochet....it just seems more intimidating than crochet.

I hope you have a stressless Friday and a great, relaxing weekend :)

    1. Good morning, Rachel. I'm going to tell you a secret. I don't knit with both hands...LOL I put one needle between my knees and then knit "off" of it. It used to be popular (in the 17th century, LOL) to use a "knitting pad or belt" that balanced one needle on your waist or hip. It's the same principal, but I do it this way since I could never get the hang of using both hands to knit. I'll have to take a picture. I think I also knit from the wrong side. You should see me try to use circular needles. It is ugly. I am such a rebel! Have a good day.

  7. Good to read that your sister is on the mend and feeling so fine after her surgery. Now I just hope that your cold has loosened its grip on you and that you are slowly feeling better.
These blankets are great, I love the red/black one a lot, it's a colour combination that appeals to me. But well, everything with red in it appeals to me, lol.
