Sunday Chores and Blooms Galore

Good afternoon, peeps!  A warm and breezy day here at the rancho.  We hit about 80 degrees.  I worked out in the yard for a couple of hours...exercise is exercise.  LOL  I got everything watered, trimmed the dead roses off the bushes, and did an hour of the "never-ending" raking.  I love our trees, but they shed worse than the dog.  LOL

My irises are starting to bloom.  It's funny how they come in waves.  First my purples, then my peaches and lilacs.  I'm still waiting for my greens/purples.

These are a smaller iris, less that a foot high.

Now these are from the bed next to the road.  These came from the neighbors, in a bag, so it's always a surprise of what color blooms in what area.  I can never remember from year to year.  LOL

I have no idea what color this may be...maybe purple, maybe purple and green?  I should know in a few days.

I've been working on hubby's scarf.  I'm on the second skein, only two more to go.  He says at the rate that I am stitching, he won't get to wear it until next year.  Okay, I'm knitting as fast as I can.  Can I help that I have have the attention span of a hamster?  LOL  First I work on his scarf, then on a blanket, then, oh look there, I should work on my quilt!  But first I have to clean off my craft table so I can find the sewing machine, then, what!?  Is that my cross stitch project?  I should get a few stitches in on that.  Oh, look how my machine cover is starting to rip...I should make a new one.

He's lucky I've finished one skein.  LOL  LOL

I had lunch with a friend and took a walk through a yarn shop in her town.  This skein, and two of it's friends, jumped into my hands and begged, yes begged, to come home with me.  Is that not a beautiful blue?  Almost electric!  It is an acrylic/wool blend.  I promise not to start something with it until I finish hubby's scarf.  Really.  LOL

Things are the same with Dad.  Still no talking, no better, no worse.  I've got a finishing retreat in a few weeks.  Hubby and Baby Sister will be taking care of Dad for the weekend.  I feel bad about going, but know that it is way past time.  The last time I left was with Baby Sister to the hospital and before that? Last year in May.  It is time for a break...

My final pictures are of part of my daily commute.  The rains have helped both grass and flowers. The first picture shows the wonderful green hills.  The yellow on the left side is wild mustard.  The second picture shows a blanket of California poppies.  It's been a long, long time since they have been so thick.

I hope that each of you have a wonderful week.  Be kind to one another.

  1. Lol I think perhaps all crafters have a short attention span.....especially when tempted by new projects everywhere ;)

Love the irises. My sister's irises are blooming. They are white with purple stripes.

I am glad to see you getting a break for a while. A stitching retreat sounds lovely!

How you ever gone to the Christmas one in Williamsburg that is advertised in Just Cross Stitch every year? It looks lovely....maybe one year I'll go :)

    Have a great week!!

    1. Good morning, Rachel. What attention span!?! I went to the other end of the house this weekend to get the cord for my cell phone. Saw a bag of leftover Easter Candy...I got all the way back to the kitchen, savoring my chocolate...without the cord. LOL

I attending quite a few of the west coast shows. Had a blast! Maybe when I retire...

    1. Good morning, Vickie. I have become quite the stalker when it comes to "our" irises. I go outside, gently remove any debris, turn the pot on a regular basis. The leaves look great, but I don't see any blooms, yet. Maybe it's on Wisconsin time? LOL

  3. My the heat you are having already. Minus temperatures lingering here for the past three days and going into this week. Yikes, it's cold. Irises are just about my favourite flower so what a treat to see so many in bloom. We get wild mustard here too and doesn't it look pretty. Love Hubby's scarf and in a manly colour. LOL The retreat sounds like just the ticket for a nice break. I like the rhyming in your title too, btw.

    1. Good morning, Jocelyn. I just knew you would get the title! LOL

The mustard isn't quite so pretty up close, but since we really haven't seen it for about five years, it's gorgeous. LOL

A manly color, hmmm? Yep, I think that is the only reason hubby saw it in a field of bright colors. We were in that store for close to an hour and this is the only yarn he commented on the entire time. LOL

The weatherman started a rumor that we will be getting rain next week. Sure we will. As for this week, he is calling for the high 70's and 80's. Not good since it drys out the grass too fast. We will see.

  4. Oh I love seeing all the cool things you make! The scarf is coming along nicely. Loved seeing the hills with the grasses and flowers, so pretty. Oh the irises are one of my favorite flowers....but just the purple ones, the white ones always look so sad as they fade. Wishing you a most wonderful day and week, too sweet friend. :)

  5. Good afternoon, Vicki. The purple opened today!! I would love to have some yellow and white, they always look so delicate. I planted red this year, we'll see how that goes!

    1. I had a few white ones, but they never really had the beauty of the purple, but then again, I am a huge fan of purple, so I might be a wee bias. :) Wishing you a lovely day sweet friend. :)

  7. So great to see the pictures of your irises. Such beautiful flowers. I have to ask my husband to buy some but I'm not sure if they would grow up here in our climate.
Nice progress on the scarf. And that blue yarn is a real dream. I'm so curious to see what you will be dong with it.

    1. Thank you, irises are one of my favorites. I still have about 8 pots that I'm waiting to bloom...who knows what colors? LOL I am trying to focus on my husband's scarf. There would be no end to the complaining if I started something else before I finished his scarf! I think I started it in January...and finished two blankets and another scarf since then. LOL
