A Pensive Moment

Good morning.  Up before the sun this morning and one extra, extra large cup of coffee into my day. Tomorrow will be Father's Day.  I'm not really sure how I feel about that.  Yes, I still have my father, but not really.  I guess I am mourning the loss of the man I knew.  We are now three years into Hospice.  Not really something that you want to brag about.  You never, never want to be a Hospice professional. Keeping myself busy and exercising regularly helps to keep my mind straight, but I think that this is going to be a tough weekend.  Sigh....

So, I will put on my big girl bloomers and get through this time.

I took my stepson to a yarn store last week.  Needless to say, not exactly what he had planned, but once I got him to "pet" the yarn, he did get a bit interested.  LOL  I let him pick out some yarn for a scarf.  He really did a nice job.  A nice shiny grey and a pretty deep red.  I will try to get a better picture once I get started.

Trying to keep all the flowers alive in the heat.  We are supposed to hit triple digits again this weekend.  I guess that summer is here.

My one and only sunflower...

Maybe not as big as you thought...LOL

My dollar store glads are finally blooming.  Pretty color, but the heat is not good for the flowers. They seem to be a little speckled.

My cactus seem to be happy.  The heat doesn't bother them at all.  LOL  My bunny ear cactus sure has grown!

So, I am off like a herd of turtles.  We are supposed to attend a wedding this afternoon.  Not really feeling it...but will try to get excited.  Hope that all have a good weekend.  Be kind to one another.

  1. ((Hugs)) to you sweet friend on Father's Day tomorrow. None of us can know the pain of another, unless we, too have walked in their shoes. I will keep you in my thoughts and prayers. Oh love your flowers...so pretty. The yarn is awesome. He picked out really nice colors. Wishing you a lovely day sweet friend. :)

    1. Thank you. It will be okay. Smile. Meanwhile, I will enjoy watching my husband and stepson do "together" stuff today. I think it includes lunch, so I'll hang around for that. LOL

  3. Yes, hospice is never fun. I really don't know how my mom did it every week with my grandfather, but she did. The both of you are strong ladies who deserve a million hugs and words of thanks. Don't worry about your dad, he knows somehow that you love him. Never doubt that.

A summer wedding....sounds sweaty! Give me a wedding any time of year except for the summer unless it's indoors!

Lol I love that your stepson had to 'pet' the yarn. All I can think of it is Hagrid in Harry Potter with his monster book.

He picked some lovely colors :)

Your flowers are pretty. The baby sunflower is cute! I'm sure your cacti love the summers on CA.

    1. Good morning, Rachel. My heart knows, I just need to keep my head at the same speed. LOL

Wedding was not that bad. It was warm, but it was held at an old barn, surrounded by trees. There was plenty of shade and lots and lots of water available. There was also beer and wine, but not my style. LOL

  4. I always tried to go through all the motions with Mom on special days. At the time, it felt like a waste of time as she didn't know. But now that she is gone, I am so glad I made the effort. Maybe there was a teeny part inside her that knew.

    1. I agree. I tell Dad I love him every day. Does he understand? I don't know, but what if he does? I don't want to take that chance....

  5. Hi Angela, so nice you and your stepson spend some quality time together; a pizza outing is the best kind. I can't imagine your heat..we have been plus thirties for three days now and I find it feels like stepping into a furnace. They are warning about watering the trees too during these heat spells. Keeping blooms up must be a challenge but yours are lovely. I am so interested in your blooming cacti (?). It must be a little surreal to have your Dad but not have him too. So sad but he is lucky to have you and yours giving him such good care.
The Orlando news has hit hard here too. Tragic.

    1. Oh I meant to say too, Daughter works with Alzheimers patients and she said hearing is the last sense to go. Even in comas people still hear. So I think you are right to talk to your Dad still.

    2. Good morning,Jocelyn. Pizza is just plain fun!

The heat here is horrible...yesterday was 106 F. I can't keep anything watered, it dries out before 10 am.

I will keep talking to Dad...I know he hears my voice. I can only hope.

  6. Talking to our beloved ones is so important in my opinion as I'm sure they can hear us even when they can't give a sign of understanding. If I was near you I'd love to give you a (hug), Angela.

Nice that you could spend time with your stepson. And yes, his colour choice was really great, I love the two colours together as well :)

    1. His yarn choice has a beautiful sheen, but splits a little bit when knitting. When I get tired of that, I go back to my crochet project. LOL
