Is That Rain? Why, Yes It Is!

Good morning and happy soggy Sunday from the rancho!

I have my Baby Boy home.  BIG SMILE.  I drove up Friday morning, missing the rain completely. Spent the night in the Bay area, then drove home yesterday.  We were very lucky.  We hit rain for only 75 miles of the 200 mile trip.  It was more of a light rain with a low fog...we did okay.

WE HAVE REACHED A GOAL!  Our area has finally hit 100% of the annual average rainfall!  I know that there are so many areas that are getting too much water, but we so desperately need the rain.  We received about  5 inches in the last week.  That is twice the amount that we usually get in January, with a full annual average of about 13 inches.  With that said, no significant flooding.  Our dirt road is a bit uneven (it's like playing a pinball game, driving back and forth to miss the potholes, LOL) but I can live with that.  This is being touted as the biggest storm in the last 20 years.  Since we've been in a drought the past 10, well, I'm not really that impressed.  LOL  I'll let you know at the end of the week.  I lived through a 30 inch winter, I can do it again.

Our morning sunrise...

Did a little shopping at my favorite yarn shop in the Bay, Avenue Yarns.  I need to make a baby blanket for a co-worker and just couldn't find the right yarn.  Ran into some beautiful multi-color that they showcased with a baby blanket.  Perfect!!  I love the colors and think it will be just right for the new baby.  I'm halfway through the first skein and am very happy with the color changes.

I worked a bit on "the" scarf, but just more black.  No need for a picture.  LOL  I have to have it done by Friday, so I am planning on knitting for at least one hour a day this week.  No problem!  LOL

I am off like a herd of turtles...I've got stuff to do!  Have a wonderful day, be kind to one another.

  1. Five inches of rain in a week is a lot of rain but I know you desperately need it. My LA son said that they say it will take three years to fully recover from the drought. Sounds like many parts are off to a good start.
    Beautiful sunrise picture!
    Enjoy your baby boy :)
    Hugs,
    Lauren

    1. I watched the news all weekend, lots of flood warnings...but we need the rain!! We have a "seasonal" creek in front of our house, basically a drainage ditch, LOL, but we changed the culvert last year and so far, so good.

    1. I'm meeting my goals! But, as I knit, it's hard to watch the weeds grow. I'll be really busy in a few weeks. SMILE

    1. Thank you, I'm really working on the relaxing part. SMILE. I sat and knitted and watched a movie with Baby Boy last night. Nothing special, but warmed my heart.

    1. Good morning! We've had a couple of years with regular rainfall, but had more 6 inch years than not. With the building of homes and vineyards in our area, we could never catch up. We've got water storage reservoirs at less than 10%. We've all learned to conserve. Yes, we've had flooding, with the next storms coming off and on for the next week. But, we'll take it...that's the only way we can even begin to replenish the ground water and fill the reservoirs. Additionally, a lot of big cities get snow water from the Sierras. No snow, no water. I've promised to myself to never complain about rain again. SMILE

  5. Good grief, we had a drought one summer and thought it was bad. Anyway, it looks like a lot of things are on track...the rainfall, the baby boy safely home with momma and your projects. You can knit or crochet while you sit with him and chat. Sounds like it's going to be a great time, Angela.

    1. We spent last night doing just that. LOL It was great!

Checked my rain gauge this morning...Five inches in 36 hours. WOW! But, nothing today, so most of the water has soaked in. Another storm hits tonight. All good...

  6. That rain must have been so long awaited. It even made it into our news. But it shouldn't be all too great to drive through mud on the dirt road. But certainly better than driving through several inches of snow. Well, maybe ...
Must be so great to have your son with you at home. Good that you find also a little time for your crafts. That baby blanket will be gorgeous, love the yarn, too.

    1. I am so happy with my son here, but always thinking about that trip home. FROWN. I need to just be happy he wants to hang out with me!! He will be 30 years old in a few weeks, way past the world's vision of a baby boy, but he will always be that sweet little boy that couldn't wait to be with Mom...
