Rain on Friday, Rain on Saturday

Good morning, peeps and peepettes.  Happy Saturday!

A beautiful morning here at the rancho.  We got inch of rain last night and rumor of a little more later today. The sun is shining right now, so the grass is growing.  Yay! This rain puts us at about 8 inches, half of our normal rainfall for a year.  The weather prediction is that the heaviest rain will hit late January and February, so we may make normal this year.  One of the small towns on the coast has already hit their normal, so after 5 years, they can stop water restrictions.  It was so bad, they had to put in a desalination plant just to have water to drink. The restaurants had to serve bottled water and put chemical toilets outside for tourists.  The people that live there cut their water usage by 45%! Our local news station did a piece on the town last night and most residents agreed, the steps they've taken to save water are a habit now, they won't go back to being wasteful.  It will be the same here at my house...we lived on minimum water for 5 years, we can keep making-do.

It was a long week at work, so the only stitching I did was on my blanket.  I'm still loving the black and red. I've started on the next row, it will be the same variegated as before.  If you look carefully at the background, you'll see some of my yarn storage.  There is too much pretty yarn in the world.  I need to learn to say no.  LOL

I really need to get all my pruning done.  My rosebushes have started to push and with the extra rain and milder temperatures, I need to get my behind in gear to get outside stuff done.  LOL  I stopped yesterday and checked the prices on bare-root roses.  I can get some non-patented bushes for about $7.  I really need to decide soon if I will be replacing my dead bushes.  Hmmm...water?  No water?

I'm almost finished with my oatmeal, off to get my day started.  I have a visit planned to an old friend today, but I should get a few chores done before I leave.  I hope that each of you have an amazing weekend.  For those with snow, be safe...stay warm.  Be kind to one another.

  1. Love your blanket you are working on! As for saying no to yarn. Hmmm. I know I will never be able to say no to yarn. I use to tell myself that I could. I even did "the program" you know...hello, my name is Stitchy Mc Floss I am a yarn ho. I was always good in the "meetings" but blast it all, they were held next to Michael's Arts and Crafts!
Don't beat yourself up over the yarn buying. You are one of us....one of us, one of us...ok, now that you are totally freaked out...hope you have a great day and a super wonderful weekend, too. :) Are you on Ravelry? If not, you gotta check it out, it's awesome. Here's a link: http://www.ravelry.com

    1. LOL, Vicki. I don't have time for Raverly...I'm too busy buying yarn. LOL Actually, I'm pretty well stuck in the giant granny square mode. As soon as I learn another stitch, watch out world. Have a good weekend!

    2. Raverly is awesome. I hope one day you have the time. I have found a million patterns on there and joined up with some pretty cool Crochet and Knit Alongs. It is a huge time sucker though. I can spend hours on there. To me its like Facebook for knitters and crocheters. There is also a few groups for cross stitching on there, too. It's free to sign up. Don't forget that You Tube has a lot of stitches for crochet (and knit, too). I actually credit You Tube for teaching me how to knit. If I ever question any stitch, I can also find it on You Tube. Love that! There is a group for crocheters called The Crochet Crowd, they have a Facebook and a blog site. They show you step by step how to make many projects. http://thecrochetcrowd.com .

Wishing you a lovely day and a super great weekend, too. :)

  3. I'm so glad you are getting rain, enough at least to keep what needs it wet. Isn't crocheting great. You really don't have to think which for me means I can watch t.v. and stitch. Your blanket is growing and how tidy your supplies are!Enjoy your weekend.

    1. Good morning, Jocelyn. Well, our family room was a three car garage. When we built our addition, it was converted to a HUGE family room. It has the nice tv and the couches. In one corner is a L-shaped desk. That WAS my craft corner. Now, with the addition of yarn, my family room is slowly becoming my CRAFT ROOM. In a way, it's pretty devious. If I keep everything tidy, everyone still THINKS it's the family room...I know better. LOL

  4. Sadly, I don't live in an area with only 16 inches of rain a year. Mobile is either #1 or 2 on the list of rainest cities in the US.

Wish we could get some snow, but that rarely happens and of course, the entire region shuts down with snow. Lol

I am loving your blanket. It looks lovely :)

Your yarn boxes are a good way to keep all your yarn together. I've got an overflowing basket full of yarn in my house.

Good luck on your crocheting! Let us know what you decide on the roses :)

    1. Good morning, Rachel. I have lived in central California my entire life. I think it has snowed less than a dozen times. When it does, you would think it was the beginning of Armageddon! LOL We have been in a serious drought for so long, no one will complain as long as we don't get more than 5 inches in one day.

I like these boxes as the lids fit tight. I live on a dirt road and everything gets so dusty. I found them at Big Lots for less that $3.50, so I was happy!

  5. This blanket is just beautiful, me too, I love that color combo a lot. One day I want to make a black, red and white quilt. Well, one day ...
You are right, there are way too many beautiful yarns, threads and fabrics out there. And I'm solo glad that there are so many, lol.
Good for you that you have had so much rain, it might help a bit after the years of draught in your state.

    1. Thank you, Brigitte. Red is my stepson's very favorite color. I've got about 5 more skeins to go. I can't wait to get it finished and mailed. He is going to be so excited!
