A Little Too Warm For Comfort

Good morning from the rancho.  Sitting with my coffee, enjoying the cool early morning.

It has been far too warm this past week, almost every day was triple digits.  I can't keep my plants watered and the heat has taken a toll on my flowers.  My roses bloom, then immediately crisp by the afternoon.  I'm sure that most people have seen the news about all the California wildfires.  We loved the rain, we prayed for more.  Unfortunately, that means we will have a horrific fire season.  All it takes is one little spark.  A fire in southern California went from a small one acre grass fire, to 30,000 acres in about 24 hours.  There are 800 firefighters in the area with only a 5% containment.  They've confirmed two deaths and the loss of 1000 structures.  It's going to be a tough summer.  Please keep us in your prayers.

Meanwhile, I'm plodding along.  My Father's Day funk lasted almost all week.  I just couldn't shake the sad feelings.  Even my staff noticed that I had lost my vacation "happy".  I was off yesterday to travel to a promotional exam.  I have mixed feelings and found it hard to study.  On one hand, it would be nice to have the boost to my retirement, on the other, I would have to work for another couple of years. Hmmm...win?  Not sure.  Of course, I could not get the job...so, this could be a moot point.  Anyway, I did a little studying and then figured either I knew it or I didn't.   I think I did well, but know that I OVER ANSWERED at least one of the questions.  Sometimes, I just can't stop talking.  LOL

On top of the worry about the exam, my morning started by dropping my cellphone in the toilet. Really?  I have to keep my phone with me all the time because of work, but I really shouldn't put it on the back of toilet while I'm cleaning.   On the other hand, at least the toilet was clean when my phone went swimming. LOL  I am much faster than I look, so I snatched it up before the water soaked through the case.  After dismantling the case, cleaning it and the phone with soap, water, and an alcohol pad, I let it dry...Yay, I didn't kill it!  I figured that either that was the way my day was going to go, or that was the worst thing that could happen.  I try not to think where it's been while using it now.  LOL

In between work, exams, and teaching my phone to swim, I've been doing some knitting.  I tried to finish up my granny square blanket, but it is getting so big and it is just too hot to hold it on my lap. So, I picked up my slub scarf.  I am liking it a bit more, starting on the third skein.  The slubs don't seem as noticeable when there are a whole bunch.  LOL

Okay, peeps.  I am off to start the day.  My brother is gone for the weekend, my husband and stepson are gone for the weekend, and I am on cow patrol.  I really need to get dressed and head out to check water troughs.  I don't think the cows would mind me in my jammies, but it could be a bit of a surprise for the people!  Have a wonderful weekend, be kind to one another.

    1. Good evening, Vickie. Cow patrol was fine, checked the water troughs and counted. All good!!

I'm doing better today. Getting out in the fields helped. It always seems that nature can quiet your soul. SMILE.

  2. Oh friend, so sorry about your funk. ((hugs)) to you. Love the scarf, and yes, it's just too hot to be working on a blanket. I tried to start one and then quickly frogged it because it's only seventy bazillion degrees outside! Prayers for the fires to go away and rain to settle over everyone. ((hugs) to you sweet friend. :) Oh, and have you been working on any cross stitching lately?

    1. Unfortunately, there will be no rain until Fall. The state goes through this most summers, but this will be extra bad because of the rain last winter. We will need to be extra careful in the dry areas.

I've done a little stitching...I will try to get a picture this weekend.

  3. Our second weekend here with plus 35C which is hot for us. In no time the lawns look fried so I can't imagine trying for lushness with your heat. Perhaps the rain gods will smile on you this summer.
Hope the funk has moved on! You deserve to be happy.

    1. Good morning, Jocelyn. I am feeling better...I hit a bad low about every three or four months. At least I know they're coming and that they will end. That helps...The heat continues, 103 degrees yesterday. Sigh. I checked, that's about 40 C. Sounds better, but think it's still hot. LOL

  4. I can't even imagine living with these temperatures. A little bit too much for me. And so bad for all the people in California who have to deal with wildfires. I just hope that the heat wave will soon make way for cooler temperatures. At least for a while.

You are making nice progress on the scarf. I couldn't knit or crochet with yarn at such high temperatures. You are really brave ;))

What was the result of your job exam? Did you get the job?

    1. Good morning, Brigitte. Thank you, I am finally falling in love with this scarf. It took a while for me to get over those slubs. LOL

The exam is just the beginning. The results will be out in late August. My boss is retiring at the end of the year, so if I did well enough on the exam, it will place me on an interview list. I am refusing to get uptight. Either I do well with what I know, or I will not be what they are looking for. Either way, I am at retirement age with 32 years, so either way, I win! LOL
