Quiet Evening at the Rancho

All was quiet last night.  I had lunch with a friend today and realized that the last time we were together was BEFORE my vacation.  Four months...time sure flies when you're grumpy...LOL

I am on the last stretch of knitting my stepson's scarf.  There is only about eight inches of grey left and then binding off.  It will be nice to start a new project.

I am teaching myself how to use circular needles.  Oh. My. Goodness. Not. Pretty.  LOL  I am working on a washcloth, so it really doesn't matter if it is beautiful.  It will work either way.  I made three washcloths for my son in  less than a week on straight needles.  I hope to get this one done...in maybe a month?  LOL  I am really slow on circulars, but if I want to make socks, I need to master these babies.

My last picture is of last night's sunset.  There is a bad fire within twenty mils of our town and the smoke is sucked into our area.  It was much worse last week.  The fire is now over 40,000 acres and only 50% contained.  There is over 1,000 firefighters covering this fire and it has been going for over two weeks.  I feel so bad for the people that have lost their homes.  It has been a miracle that no one has died.

I hope that each of you have a wonderful Sunday.  Be kind to one another.

  2. I think your knitting is awesome. Keep at the circular knitting, it gets better with each project. I like using the double points for socks and doilies, but for most of my other knitting (even stuff that is not required to be in the round) I use the circular needles because then where ever you go, there are not two long needles poking who ever sits next to you. :) Prayers for all those firefighters and people out your way...praying the fires are put out soon. Blessings always sweet friend. :)

    1. I don't know, holding circular needles is like some kind of Twister game with my fingers. And I was never very good at that, either!! I know I'll get better, but meanwhile, I will be knitting the world's most uneven washcloth.

I read today that the fire was at 45,000 acres. Sigh.

Hope your day was a good one.

  3. Hi Angela, Soo happy to see you. I too think your knitting looks great. Circular needles are not easy to master..they twist but you will improve and it will be worth it for any number of projects.
We had a huge fire here back in May...Fort McMurray, Alberta and the whole town had to be evacuated. The firefighters were real heroes. Such a scary side to Mother Nature. Hope they can get this one down your way contained.
Hope this week is a good one for you.

  4. Your scarf looks beautiful! I'm with Vickie. Your knitting skills are impressive to the non knitter audience :)

Scary fires! Firefighters and all the personnel that deal with those disasters are amazing. Our city finally decided to give all our police officers, ambulance workers, and firefighters a decent raise so they will be competitive with other cities. About time too! Those are hard jobs. They deserve good pay and benefits.

Hopefully the fires calm down. Where's the rain when you need it?! Oh, that's right...it's sitting out in the Gulf deciding which way it's going to go. Ugh....

Good luck with your projects :)

    1. Good morning, Rachel. We were so happy to get rain last winter, but this shows the downside. When you have fuel, you have fires. We're not expecting any rain until November or December...

  5. I'm sure that it won't take long until you can knit with your circular needles as fast as with your regular needles. Everything is just practice, lol. Great progress only our stepson's scarf as well.

Let's hope that you will soon get some rain in your area. These fires must be very scary and hopefully no one will die in them. It's just so sad that so many people lost their homes to the fires.

    1. Good morning, Brigitte. Thank you for the vote of confidence...let's hope it works. LOL I'm afraid that I've knitted in my "special way" for so long, it is just difficult to learn to knit with both hands. I will keep practicing! LOL
