Never Ever Ending Knitting

Happy Monday evening from the rancho...

There is something about small yarn and smaller needles.  You just keep knitting, and knitting, and knitting...and LOOK, you now have one inch of scarf.  I love the colors, the yarn is so soft and squishy, but I may not be finishing this scarf anytime soon.  LOL

I still think this should be a self-striping yarn...what in the world did I do wrong?  LOL

Took a little trip to Michael's, found some very cool wooden stars.  A little chalk paint, some wax, BOOM, a new project is born.  LOL  Pulled out my punch needle and did this little star.  It is cream with blue swirls. I've got some little red chenille to put around the outside.  I think that will really make it pop...I will get it finished this week and post another picture.  You can see the next star in the background.  I've started punching that star, it will be dark blue, with a golden circle in the middle and red rays.  Just so you know, it is not quite as crooked as it looks in this picture.  LOL

Dad is still hanging in there.  No talking, but does seem alert when I feed him.  I try to keep up a conversation, but sometimes, I have nothing left to say.  Sigh.

My son is doing very well.  He is teaching Poetry and Rhetoric at the University of Iowa.  It is only for this year, so he's starting to plan his next step.  He would like to stay in the area...me, I'd like him closer to home.  LOL  I've started to hint that he should come home next January for a visit.  It's never too early to start the nagging process!  I've got two weeks of vacation coming in November, but I don't really care to fly.  I could drive...but another 4000 miles?  And in the snow?  Hmmm, I'll have to give that some thought. LOL

Okay, peeps, off to finish my night chores and fall into bed.  I wish a happy week for all, be kind to one another.

  1. I love how your scarf looks. That wool makes for a very interesting pattern, no stripes but kind of blocks. I love that, it's a bit different from other scarves. I think it's the knitting pattern that creates that colour pattern.
This star is so beautiful. A very creative idea for Christmas.
Good luck to your son for his future plans.

    1. Thank you! I'm not sure how I got it to block like that!! LOL I bought the pattern and yarn together...the one they had as an example at the yarn shop was striped. I bet it is an accident and I will never be able to do it again. LOL

  2. You have very fun projects going.
God bless you in the care you give your father. He cannot get it out, but I know he hears you and can still process some of it.
    How is your sister?

    1. I always enjoy punch needle, but I seem to have too many hobbies and not enough time. LOL

My sister is doing well. She is planning her next vacation...Canada this time. She asked if I wanted to go for part of the trip, but if I was traveling, we all know that I would head to Iowa. LOL

  3. Oh the star is so cute. You did a great job. Love, love the scarf. I find knitting so peaceful. I look forward to seeing it all finished. That is great news about your son teaching. Maybe he can find a teaching job closer to you next year, too. Wishing you a day filled with many blessings sweet friend. :)

    1. Why, thank you so much!! I found a cute shelf with knobs for hanging "stuff". My plan is to hang all the stars in the spare room. It will look nice with the quilt and antique stuff.

Peaceful? Hmmmm...it is taking FOREVER!! I love the feel of the yarn, so soft, but this is slow going. LOL

I was fortunate that my son lived so close for so many years. I miss him so much. He was my walking buddy, my thrift shop buddy, my taco buddy. LOL Maybe one day...

  4. That's the thing about scarves, Angela, they need to be long. I hear you about the little strands and small needles; it doesn't work up fast,as we would say at home. But you'll get there. Now I have to say, I love those punch hook stars. Really nice and unique(to me) too. Lucky son to find employment in his field; hope he enjoys the experience. Who knows what the future might bring. In my case, I was the one ending up moving to be near the daughters. Have to say, so happy to see you here. Have a great week.

    1. Oh, I so wish he would head this way. Sigh. But, he will need to go where the jobs are. He is still talking about a PhD, and is looking around for a "residency", whatever that means. LOL But I am happy for him. He loves poetry and he said that both of his classes have students that are interested. Can't ask for more than that.

  5. There's a special place in heaven for you. God love you for taking care of your dad. It is so difficult.
I know what you mean about a son being far away. I'm in Ohio and my #1 bad boy is in the LA area. I know that he will never move back to Ohio...sigh...but I can't say that I blame him.
    Great punch needle star!
    Hugs :)

    1. Okay, here's the plan...we get my son to move to LA, we save a spot in Iowa for your's...it might work! LOL I feel the same about my son, he will never move back to our town. Maybe the Bay Area, but with rent so high, he would need to find a very special job.

I don't know about heaven, I just try to hang in there and keep my promise to Dad. We will care for him as long as we are physically able. Since he is bedridden, it's actually easier. At least I don't have to worry about him falling...

  6. Your knitting is pretty--love the colors!
So glad your son is enjoying his teaching, and I hope he will find the perfect job closer to you!!!
I know how hard it must be to take care of your father. Somehow I think he knows you are there and is so appreciative. We all do for those we love and wouldn't have it any other way! You are a wonderful daughter!

    1. Sometimes, Dad looks so far away, and then suddenly, he's looking straight at me. I'm pretty sure he knows who I am, but it's hard telling someone that you love them every day and there's never an answer back.

As for my son...I miss him every day. But, one day, he will settle down and I will move right next door. Surprise! LOL LOL LOL
