And Still The Rain Keeps Coming...

Happy Wet Wednesday to all the peeps!

We are on on third storm and still hanging in there.  Between Saturday afternoon and this morning,
6 1/3 inches of rain.   I was really surprised when I checked the rain gauge on Monday morning.  It looked like there was no water...at all!  But as I leaned over, and looked under the fence, I realized that there was no water line because the gauge was filled at 5 inches!!  SURPRISE!  Northern California has taken the brunt of the storms, lots of flooding and damage.  But, we are still doing okay in our area.  The river that runs through town has barely had any winter water for many years.  Today, it's running strong.  In a way, it is a good thing, washing out all the dead bushes and trees in the river bed, creating a healthier environment.  So far, no flooding.  We are lucky that we have one day of rain, then a break, then another day of rain. The water has been able to soak in before the next storm. Please keep the areas that are flooding in your thoughts.

Staying busy with Baby Boy.  We've went out to lunch, hit a lot of the thrift stores, and are looking into semi-matching tattoos.  WHAT?  I know, I know, I'm 56, what am I thinking? When I got my ears double-pierced, my father went ballistic.  Keep in mind that I was almost 30, had been married for 10 years, and had a child!!  I have considered a tattoo for almost 10 years, but could never settle on an appropriate design.  When I was visiting my son in Iowa, I realized that my life was led by one simple rule, be kind.  And, I taught him this same rule...all people are equal, no matter their color, their age, their religion, their gender.  You treat everyone with respect and kindness.  It makes me proud to know that he lives this each and every day.  Sooooo, he has a pattern picked out (he already has several tattoos) and will add the words BE KIND.  I have chosen to have a small bird placed on my ankle, designed by him, with the same words.  It will be visible in the summer when I wear capris, but not when I am wearing my work clothes. I'm brave, but not that brave!  LOL

So, now that you've picked yourself up off the floor (LOL), let's get to some pictures.  These are two views of the same vine.  I was surprised to find some of these vines still on the wall.  I love the red and green...so pretty!

My son brought me one of his handmade ceramic bowls.  I was very excited...then asked for five more! They are the perfect size for dessert bowls.  LOL  It is glazed with dark, dark green on the inside, but a special white glaze on the outside.  Very rough and primitive.  His favorite style.  I love it!

And by coincidence, the friend that I made the scarf for, sent me this special candle holder.  Also handmade, but more refined than my son's style.  Same color glazes, filled with a soy candle.  She is very talented. You can see the outside of my bowl in this picture.

I finished "the" scarf!!  I am sending it home with my son...hopefully his friend likes it!  My son said that if she didn't seem excited enough, he'd keep it for himself.  That's my boy!  LOL

I am off to finish my chores...no rest for the wicked...or weary...depends on how my day has gone. LOL Be kind to one another.

  1. I'm glad you guys are getting much needed rain and that nature is letting is settle before giving you more.

I think tattoos are beautiful, but I'm not much for pain and think I'd freak out. Rather not destroy a tattoo parlor in my haste to get out of there!! Lol

I love the idea of 'be kind' as a tattoo. It is very true and something the world needs to remember.

The ceramic wares are pretty! And your scarf - gorgeous!!! If I was your son, I'd keep it too if someone declined it!!!

    Have a great day :)

    1. LOL I've asked my son several times if it will hurt. His comment? Mom, you have a pretty high tolerance for pain...LOL

I've put in a request for a yarn bowl. Maybe...LOL

  2. Hooray for the rain you are getting in your area. Your vine is pretty. Love the ceramics. Can't wait til Madeleine has ceramics. She has a textiles class this semester. Your scarf will be a hit!

    1. Ryan finds beauty everywhere. He's worked in watercolors, acrylics, and now ceramics. He seems to like the feel of the clay best. It is interesting to me that the more primitive and "rough" the project is, the harder he works to get it that way. We are a lot alike when it comes to color, though he is a much better artist than me. LOL

I would love to see some of her textile work...be sure to share!

  3. Your son and his friend are talented. That is one thing I've not tried.
Love the idea of your tattoo. If I was younger...much younger, I'd probably consider one, but at this stage in my life, gravity is taking its ugly toll...lol!
Happy you are getting rain and it has not caused any issues for you.
    Hugs :)

    1. I think the last time I did ceramics...I was in second grade. LOL

And that would be why I am putting the tattoo on my ankle. LOL Shouldn't be much sag there. I'm planning on a watercolor piece, no bigger than four inches. The artist reminded me that watercolor has a tendency to fade. I told her that was okay, I only needed it for another 20 years...I think I creeped her out. LOL

  5. This morning I read in the newspaper about heavy flooding in California and was immediately thinking of you. I hope it hasn't affected your area too heavily.
Enjoy the time with your son. A great bowl that he made for you - and a set of these should be so great.
    I love the scarf.

    1. Good morning!! We received another inch, but will have a couple of days off now. Perfect to fill the lakes, but not cause too much flooding. A lot of the country back roads are closed, or open to locals only. You're still able to get around, just need to be a little inventive. LOL

  6. So glad you have had moderate rainfall, got your scarf finished, got a handmade bowl(I love) and is enjoying some son time. I wish I could tag along to those thrift shops with you.
What a perfect sentiment for you both to express in tattoo form. I've always wanted a tattoo. I usually wear bracelets and I thought of getting a thin ring of flowers put around my wrist, but I don't know if it would fade and look line a line of dirt with time. What do you think?

    1. According to our weather man, no rain until next week. Yay!

I did a lot of research, checked out the artist, went through their portfolio. It is not a decision to be made overnight. I seriously have thought about this for 10 years. LOL I wanted to be sure that it was not a mistake FOR ME. My son has several tattoos and when I mentioned we should go together, it was his idea to have the same words placed on his tattoo. I chose to have it somewhere that I could see it, but couldn't be seen when dressed for work. If you are serious, see a professional artist, they should be able to assess whether it would be appropriate for your skin type and age. Disclaimer...I am in no way saying that you are too old!! LOL No matter how "acceptable" tattoos have become, it is a very personal decision. And there is a difference between a tasteful tattoo and...whatever that was. LOL I see tattoos every day at work that all I can say is...bless your heart. And why do you have a picture of a demon on your face? LOL (I'm not kidding about that one.)
