Little Bit of This...A Lot of That...

Howdy, peeps!  First, I finished the chicken!!!!  I sent the rest of the family on a day trip and took a little craft break. I will finish it into a pillow, but at least the punch needle part is DONE!

Then, here is a box that I picked up from Michael's last week.  I took some time out and got it chalk painted and waxed.  Woo Hoo!  This is one of my favorite shades of green and the wax gave it a nice patina.

Now, part of the reason I sent the family out was...I was tired!  Yesterday, we went to the Monterey Bay Aquarium and back, about a five hour round trip just in driving.  I needed to recharge.  I did all the driving and I think everyone slept on the way back except for me!

But I've got some great pictures to share...

We're here!

A baby turtle....

Herds of jellies...

Oh look, I found Nemo.  LOL  LOL  LOL  Or maybe just some of Nemo's friends...

One of my favorite pictures...I called it octopus butt, but my husband reminded me this is the other side of the octopus since its mouth is in the middle of all those arms.

And here is a few of my son.  He is so patient with me.  How many moms can get their adult children to sit in an egg so she can get a picture?  LOL  And then, see those hands?  He was pretending to be a barnacle.  He is such a good sport.

After a few hours in the aquarium, we headed to Cannery Row for lunch, then back to the aquarium for a few more exhibits.  By that time, most of the school buses had dropped off the kids for the end- of-year field trips (there were lots and lots of them and they were very loud), so we finished up and headed down to the Old Fisherman's Wharf.  I took a few pictures while we were there, but I will save them for the next post.

The Monterey Bay Aquarium is wonderful.  If you have the chance to go...DO IT!! There are some permanent exhibits like the Open Ocean and the jellies, but there is always something new.  Last year was sea horses, this year was an exhibit called Tentacles.  Very interesting with cuttlefish and lots of octopuses.

I am having such fun with my son.  He leaves tomorrow to head back to Iowa.  I will be sad, but am so proud of him.  He is kind, thoughtful, and works so hard at school.  It is really hard to have him far away.  It will be at least six months before we see him again...

Be kind to one another.

Not sure what this means, or what he will do when he grows up (LOL) but I am so proud of him! He has been teaching as a grad student and kind of likes it....My husband says that my son got his brains from me...I don't know, I think he got an extra pound or so! LOL

  3. I love the chicken!! It looks great! And the green box is lovely. You did a wonderful job on it!
Looks like you had a fun trip! Sometimes it is nice to just get away for a while! So glad your son is there for a visit. It sounds like he might end up being a professor, which would be a wonderful career!
Glad you're having such a good summer!

  4. I love your chicken (like chickens as you know). You are busy as usual. Believe it or not I have been at the Monterey Bay Aquarium; I never forgot the kelp forest exhibition. Teaching at the college level would be wonderful for your son, says me, a retired teacher who loved her career.

    1. He is teaching a summer class for first year students. We'll see...LOL When he started last year, he was a little uncomfortable, but I think he's found his style.

The aquarium is wonderful!! We are so fortunate to live close. We try to go every few years so we can see the new exhibits.
