Baby Boy is Safe and Sound in California

Good morning from the rancho!!

Lots of happy here today.  Baby boy made it into Oakland!!  His flight was delayed in Chicago, so made it to California later than expected.  Honestly, if the delay was due to weather and safety, I'm good.  Then he told me that he was taking BART to get into the city.  Hmmm, after he told me that the New York subway was safer than BART, I started to worry all over again.  LOL

Today is the first day without frost in about a week.  It's still under 40 degrees, but at least I don't have to bundle up to take out the trash.  LOL  I will need to start pruning my rose bushes soon.  I usually have them all done by mid-January, so I'm still on schedule.

I spent yesterday running errands and then did a bit of de-cluttering.  Honestly, living with a hoarder is difficult.  Most times I try to put on blinders, but once in a while I just can't stand it.  I have to be careful though.  If I don't cover the stuff up in the garbage bin, he will dig it back out.  Really.  His dad was a hoarder and when he passed away, half of his stuff came to our house.  Add the fact that my husband is starting to have some memory issues...the next few years can only get worse.  I try to be subtle.  I don't say much about the outside, but when his stuff starts to creep up to the front of the property, I put my foot down.

Time to get out of my jammies and start my day.  My order from Amazon came in on Thursday, so I'll make a quick run into the post office.  I'm pretty excited...it's the t-pins and foam squares that I ordered to block my scarf.  Yay!!  I've decided that I have three projects on my bucket list:  knit a pair of socks, crochet a fancy shawl, and crochet a pair of slippers.  If I can get these done, I'll need a blocking system.  I thought about using cardboard and a towel, but I found some foam block on Amazon that were very reasonable. They're really for a play floor for kids, but have a lot of reviews from people that use them for blocking. Much cheaper than the "real" ones.  LOL

Off and moving.  Have a great day and be kind to one another.

  1. Yay! Glad he made it safe and sound. You all have fun and enjoy your time together. I can't really say anything about being a hoarder when I stop and think about my yarn stash (let's just say it's in more places than Hubby even knows about, under the bed, behind stuff in the closet, in the computer room, tucked away in the living room behind the sofa). I do however, keep the house looking as though no Yarn HO-arder lives here, just don't go snooping behind, or under things and you'll never know! :) I love the idea of a knitted shawl. I hope to make a few this year. I hope to get better at knitting. No promises, however, unless looking up patterns on Ravelry counts as actual knitting. :) So love Ravelry. Are you on there? Wishing you a lovely day sweet friend. :)

    1. Oh, believe me, in the big world of hoarding, your yarn couldn't even cause a blip on the screen. LOL And honestly, I have enough yarn for four complete afghans. But it is tidy and in storage bins. I live on a dirt road and you don't want anything left on shelves very long. It will be covered with dust. LOL My husband is afraid that if he throws something away today, he will need it tomorrow. I don't get it...if I buy new shoes because mine are worn out, I throw the old ones away. Him? Nope. He may be able to "fix" the old ones. Shaking head. LOL

  2. Angela,

Thanks for the comments on my blog. Sometimes I think I have only few readers! Lol

I'm with Stitchy, I've got a lot of yarn too! And books in abundance!

Good luck with your project goals. Crochet is always fun. I've started to teach my sister how to crochet :)

I hope your blocking goes well!!

    1. Rachel, I was glad to find you! I think I blogged for a year before anyone noticed. LOL I was okay with that since I write to clear my head, but it is nice to share with others!

I've "met" some amazing people out there in blogland. My husband is confused when I say that Jocelyn said this or Vickie said that. He always asks who and I remind him, you know, Jocelyn in Canada, Vickie in Wisconsin. He doesn't get it, but that's okay. LOL

I've got my scarf on the blocking table now....we'll see!!

  4. What? Now my blog is fun AND educational! LOL Sometimes I forget that the whole world doesn't live in California! Thank you, Vickie, I am so looking forward to some "mom and son" time. LOL

  5. I had to look up BART too, LOl. Love your bucket list. I should adopt it because it contains all things I would like to make too. I used to live with an almost hoarder and it took a toll on me sometimes; I felt overwhelmed by all the stuff. Ah well, no one's perfect I suppose. Safe travels to your son!

    1. Oh, there is no "almost" about it. Yesterday, I started early with cleaning up the kitchen counter. Hubby said it made him "anxious" to watch me. Hmmm, it makes me "anxious" to see all the stuff on the counter. LOL You would think that after 35 years I would be used to him. Most days I just put on the blinders, but when I've seen the same bag of chips on the counter for a week...that's what cupboards are for. LOL And you're right, I need to appreciate what he does for my dad. Have a great day!

  6. I knew what BART was!! haha
    Glad he got there!
I'm working on cleaning out, too! We really aren't hoarders, but have just let some things slide and now I'm trying to address everything! It is getting easier to throw things away! haha!
    Happy New Year!

  7. Do we ever stop worrying about our children? No, there is no chance, lol, no matter how old they are.
I started decluttering my craft room in the new year - and it's already visible, but it still needs some days before I can see through to the bottom of things. Other rooms in the house are a different thing - my DH is a bit like yours, lol.
Wishing you all the best for 2016!

    1. That is so true!! LOL Baby Boy will always be Baby Boy! LOL I try to keep my craft area clean...I cannot stand clutter when I'm trying to sew. My biggest problem is having too many projects at a time. Just yesterday, I started a crocheted afghan and a knitted scarf. I need intervention. LOL
